Yes, just another photo of a man taking a photo of a photographer taking a photo of a wedding. Maybe there was someone behind me doing the same and someone behind them and so on and so on.
The wedding party was blocking the cycle path but the sun was out and warm so we didn’t mind the wait. It’s nice to look at these things. I understand wedding photography is a tricky business. A photographer friend of mine had done it once and swore never to do it again. He said this with that faraway look in his eyes usually associated with war veterans and other traumatised members of society.
The photographer on the table which clearly was not meant to support photographers and their equipment was struggling to maintain balance and control of his subject matter. The children were exploding with energy and would not stay still. People were shifted around for aesthetic reasons and the bride and groom seemed put off by our presence. We were accidentally intruding on a special moment.
I could easily have spent the rest of the afternoon watching the photographer do his thing but a quick thinking bride halted proceedings long enough to let us through.
“Congratulations!” we said. “Thank you.” they said.
