In an alternate reality, this photo would be a still from the second to last scene of a romantic thriller set in Rome. As it you see two people trying to say ’good-bye’ having spent the afternoon at Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere. The ‘ciao moment’ took at least 45 minutes and was done using a slow motion love dance. It took a few minutes to understand the rules and logic of the dance: the partners were allowed to move as much as they wanted within each other’s personal space but could not touch, hug or kiss. The result was hypnotic. Everyone sitting at the terrace from where this photo was taken watched their performance in near silence. Eventually the dance came to an end with the man heading off in one direction and the lady in another. We all sighed and went back to thinking about what to do with the rest of the afternoon.
